Help our heroes find the homes they deserve.
Around 40,000 soldiers are currently abandoned on the streets of the United States, where some have been robbed, beaten, and even lost their lives. Often all that stands between them and a home of their own is the deposit. But as most chronically homeless veterans do not have jobs or income to cover that required cost, they remain on the streets.
Without proper housing veterans are unable to receive the much needed services that allow them to have a good quality of life. Once they have a steady residence they are able to receive the medical attention that they need.
“Hands down, the most common obstacle faced by Veterans during the lease-up process as described by HUD-VASH sites is a lack of funds for security deposits and other move-in costs.” – VA Best Practice Guide
GreaterGood.org works with Veterans Matter, a program of 1Matters.org, to step in to fill that need. Working with HUD and VA case managers, Veterans Matter provides the deposit and the veteran’s portion of the first month’s rent directly to the landlord. This payment can be provided within minutes, affording the veterans the opportunity to move in immediately.
You can help. Your donation helps take a homeless veteran off the streets and into their own place. These heroes were willing to risk their lives for our safety - the very least we can do is make sure that they have a safe, warm place to call home!
Veterans Matter Houses America's Heroes and Their Families in Permanent Housing. It's the least we can do for those who gave the most. 2,700+ Veterans housed to date. Let's bring more Heroes home for good.
