Help End Bear Cruelty in Vietnam and China

To date Animals Asia has rescued 637 bears from captivity and, so far, this year we have rescued eight more, including two cubs who were no more than four months old when saved from the illegal wildlife trade in Vietnam. Anh and Em were snatched from the wild as babies and can sadly never be released as they do not have the skills to survive. YOU can help care for them – filling their tummies with food and ensuring they get the care they need to thrive!

Thanks to a generous donor, the latest $10,000 in donations were matched dollar for dollar.
But don’t stop now — the bears still need us… Donate today to continue our rescue efforts!

Animals Asia is devoted to ending bear bile farming and improving the welfare of animals across Asia. They promote compassion and respect for all animals and work to bring about long-term change. The Animals Asia team has been rescuing bears since 1994 and operates award-winning bear rescue sanctuaries in China and Vietnam and we are the only organization with a bear sanctuary in China.

Today, around 10,000 bears are trapped on farms throughout China and over 400 more are held in cramped captivity in Vietnam. The bears can spend more than 30 years in tiny cages where they have their bile extracted for traditional medicine. However, bear farming is ending in Vietnam. Animals Asia has an historic agreement with the Vietnamese government to close the remaining bear farms and bring the last captive bears to sanctuary, proving the power of kindness in action.

Greater Good Charities partners with Animals Asia Foundation to help these rescued bears get the care they need with your help! We are working toward ending bear bile farming by focusing on key areas: operating sanctuaries where rescued bears are rehabilitated and cared for, reducing demand for bear bile, monitoring the changing trends in the trade of bear bile and parts, engaging with the traditional medicine community to promote herbal and synthetic alternatives.

You can help us care for the hundreds of bears in AAF's care. Just $5 helps provide food for an abused bear. You can help these bears live the life they deserve.

Field Update

Autumn 2020

Despite the global crisis and national lockdowns our rescue teams in Vietnam have brought eight more bears home to sanctuary. Supporters from all over the world have come together to dramatically change the lives of these previously imprisoned bears, making the work of our rescue, veterinary and bear care teams possible, and allowing these bears the chance to walk on grass once more.

Our first rescue took place in March and saw 3 bears – James, Alice and Bân – brought to safety. It was clear when they arrived that they were traumatized by their experiences and on closer inspection they appeared to be quite young bears. This most likely means they were captured from the wild and possibly witnessed the death of their mother while cubs.

After a bumpy ride, these 3 beautiful souls are now thriving in our care. They continue to live together in a purpose-built enclosure getting daily enrichment and eating nourishing food. James is particularly fond of water and loves taking bubble baths!

The most recent rescue was of the two cubs Anh and Em (meaning ‘big brother’ and ‘little sibling’). They have been spared a lifetime in a cage however their future in the wild was stolen from them along with their mother. Our promise to these two young cubs is to give them a life of peace and respect where their health and happiness is our top priority.

Animals Asia Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to end the farming of bears for bile in Vietnam and China, provide sanctuary for bears, end the suffering of wild animals in captivity, and ensure humane treatment of dogs and cats.
